Leafy Tree Marten

leafytreemartenwebA rarely seen relative of the Pine Marten, the Leafy Tree Marten never ventures from the tall tree it was born on. It sticks its long tail out above the tree line to gain energy by photosynthesis, and uses its stubby antlers to hollow out clumps of bark for shelter. Once a year they shed their leafy tails, which may be found beneath the tallest trees in the wood – for most people, this is the only evidence they’ll ever see of this shy creature.
